The CLASS Hysteroscopy Center of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli – IRCCS in Rome is the largest Digital Hysteroscopic Clinic in the world. It is made up of 3 operating rooms in which endoscopy and two- and three-dimensional ultrasound are perfectly integrated. Such a project was carried out in Leuven (Belgium) with the creation of an integrated operating room completely dedicated to digital hysteroscopy, followed by a center inaugurated in Shanghai where there are 2 integrated rooms. "Our ambitious project - explains Professor Giovanni Scambia, director of the Gynecology Oncology Department at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli - IRCCS - involved the construction of 3 integrated rooms completely dedicated to digital hysteroscopy. Thanks to the collaboration of the “Oppo e le sue stanze” Organization, each room has at its disposal the most advanced technologies in terms of endoscopic image management and three-dimensional ultrasound and all the most advanced tools for the management of endouterine pathologies ".
Thanks to the extreme miniaturization of the instruments and the very small but very high quality endoscopic optics and thanks to the presence of a 3D ultrasound system in each room, it will be possible to treat any intrauterine pathology in a single moment. "We will therefore abandon the classic model in which the patient is forced to go to the hospital several times to perform ultrasound, diagnostic hysteroscopy, pre-hospitalization with exams and then operative hysteroscopy in the operating room, to welcome her in the integrated Digital Hysteroscopic Clinic that will allow us to perform everything in a single moment and in an ultra-minimally invasive way ”- continues Professor Giovanni Scambia.
It is a unique creation and it was designed specifically for this activity. Patient path, preparation and recovery areas and, above all, operating theaters have been specifically designed and built to perform digital hysteroscopy procedures, integrating all the necessary technologies ensuring maximum comfort and maximum safety for patients and operators.
"Flagships of the CLASS Hysteroscopy Center - concludes Professor Scambia - are the management of patients with Uterine Malformations and the fertility-sparing management of patients in childbearing age with Endometrial Cancer, for which a specific Clinical Path has also been activated".
